Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Emirates, Dubai’s flagship airline, recently shared a few images of its aircraft on social media, with the title, “Out with the old; in with the new!” Since then, it has created a buzz, with many different opinions and comments shared about it online.
“Aircraft livery”
is the most instantly recognizable brand real estate for any airline. It’s a visual representation of our unique identity, something we wear proudly, and display in all the cities we fly to around the world. We’re refreshing our livery to keep it modern, without losing the key elements of our identity such as the UAE flag on our tailfin and the Arabic calligraphy,” said Sir Tim Clark, Emirates’ president. It was in 1999 that Emirates’ livery got a refresh for the first time after its launch (along with the original livery) in 1985. The latest or third Emirates livery comes after two decades in 2023.
What Is New About Emirates’ Aircraft Livery?
The UAE Flag in 3D Artwork: It is noticeable on the Emirates carriers’ tailfin, where the colors of the UAE flag (red, green, white, and black) look more realistic and wavy.
New Design for Wingtips: The wingtip gets a facelift, being painted bright red. Its major draw is the Emirates logo with Arabic calligraphy, presented in white. Travelers with a window seat onboard can see the UAE flag on the wingtips overlooking the fuselage.
Bigger and Bolder Lettering: One of the iconic characteristics of an Emirates carrier is the signature “Emirates” lettering (in Arabic and English) that is painted gold on the carrier’s fuselage. Thanks to the new livery, these letterings are now bolder and 32.5% bigger.
What Is Retained And Removed As Per The New Livery?
One feature retained in the aircraft’s new livery is the red branding on its belly; it has been one of Emirates’ most recognizable design elements since 2005. When it comes to the elimination of features, it has removed Emirates’ URL, www.emirates.com, from the new design.
The First Aircraft To Get The New Emirates Livery
An Airbus A380 that holds the registration A6-E0E is the first aircraft to be out with the new Emirates livery. Interestingly, it is not the first time that this approximately nine-year-old aircraft is getting a refresh, as it earlier donned exclusive liveries to mark the UAE’s 50th anniversary celebration and Dubai’s hosting of Expo 2020 in 2021.
More Emirates Aircraft To Be Rolled Out In New Livery By 2024
There are over 260 aircraft in the Emirates’ fleet, 24 of which are expected to fly in the new livery before 2023 ends. That’s not all; all brand-new aircraft to join its fleet, such as the first Airbus A350 (that will be unveiled by August 2024), will spot this fresh design.
Emirates announced a multi-billion-dollar investment plan in August 2022, indicating its overall fleet upgrade. So, aircraft interiors (including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777) will also get a makeover apart from their exteriors.
