Traveling to Dubai for a holiday this year and concerned about getting around public transport? Calm yourself because you are in good hands. Dubai is renowned for its sophisticated flair and impeccable vision for perfection and efficiency, and the same qualities permeate its public transport as well. There is no need to be anxious, as Dubai boasts some of the most efficient, modern, clean, and punctual public transport systems in the world. Read on, and by the end of this post, you will feel confident about getting around Dubai public transport with ease.

Ways to get around in Dubai

There are four commonly used methods for traveling from one place to another within Dubai City. You can access the Dubai Metro, Dubai’s vast fleet of public buses, or opt for door-to-door travel with taxis and cabs. Additionally, Dubai Trams and the Monorail in Palm Jumeirah also help you reach from one place to another seamlessly.

Dubai Metro

Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall metro station.

Now that you have arrived in Dubai, the first thing to strike off from the many things to do in Dubai is to view the colossal Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall located nearby. But how do you reach them in the simplest way? Easy! Find the nearest metro station and take the Red Line to reach Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station. It is that simple! Dubai Mall even has a Metro Link Bridge that connects the metro station directly to the mall. From there, head to the ground level to access one of Burj Khalifa entrances which lets you explore this stellar work of modern architecture. Want to explore winter sports in the desert city? Take a metro and alight at the Mall of the Emirates station to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and more at Ski Dubai. The Dubai Metro is highly efficient, frequent, and covering most of the major tourist areas and business districts in Dubai. Plus, the stations and cabins are fully air-conditioned, making it a very convenient option for most visitors. It is sleek, affordable, and super easy to use.

Did you know it is also the longest driverless metro network in the world? Stretching the length of Dubai in two routes: the Red Line and the Green Line, Dubai Metro covers 57 stations in total. If you want to see all the iconic landmarks of the city, take the Red Line, which has stations near them. Trains run frequently, so you won’t have to wait long.

While the Dubai Metro connects you to many tourist attractions in Dubai, some attractions are a bit far from Dubai Metro stations. The Museum of the Future, for instance, is on Sheikh Zayed Road, and the nearest metro station is Emirates Towers Metro Station, which is around 300 meters away. This distance is walkable. However, if you have booked Dubai Frame tickets, you need to know how to reach the attraction and which public transport in Dubai to use before you leave your accommodation. Unfortunately, you cannot reach Dubai Frame directly via the Dubai Metro. You will have to alight at Max Metro Station and then take a bus to reach the Dubai Frame. Similarly, if you have booked stays far away from metro stations, public transport, such as Dubai buses come in quite handy to bridge the gap, as they also operate a dedicated Metro link service. For visiting Palm Jumeirah, combine your Dubai Metro ride with a Dubai Tram ride.

Dubai Tram

Tram service in the city of Dubai.

Dubai Tram is an exclusive extension to Dubai Metro to reach the Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah’s Palm Monorail service. It connects seamlessly with the Dubai Metro’s Red Line at Sobha Realty, from where Dubai Marina Mall station is just a stone’s throw away. Likewise, you can alight at the DMCC station from where you can access Dubai Marina Station. The Dubai Tram allows you to alight at 11 stations in a loop from Al Sufouh, through Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and back to Al Sufouh. To reach Palm Jumeirah, you can get off at Sobha Realty Metro Station or DMCC Station, take the tram ride to Palm Jumeirah Station, and then head to Palm Gateway Station to catch the Palm Monorail for a quick ride to Atlantis The Palm, home of Aquaventure Waterpark and the Lost Chambers Aquarium, or to explore the many other tourist attractions in Dubai housed on this iconic man-made island.

Dubai Taxis

For door-to-door convenience, taxis are the best option, as they pick you up directly from your location and drop you off at a particular area or attraction. Do you have Burj Khalifa tickets and want to get there quickly? A taxi ride is your best bet! If you are not staying near a metro station in Dubai and can afford to splurge a bit on transportation, then book a taxi or hail a cab through apps. You will not have to worry about walking in the heat or looking at timetables to find out which public transport system to take. Taxis are abundant throughout Dubai and can be easily hailed on the street, or found at hotels and malls. Dubai’s taxis are efficient. For female travellers and families, there are exclusive ladies-only taxis with pink-colored roofs. You can also book via ride-hailing apps such as Careem or Uber. Or better still, if you can book Burj Khalifa admission with transfers from your tour operator, that solves the whole issue easily!

Dubai Bus

Buses parked at a stop in Dubai.

Dubai public buses offer a wallet-friendly and super-comfy way to explore the city. Around 88% of Dubai is connected smoothly with more than 1500 fully air-conditioned, spacious buses. Managed by the RTA,  Dubai Public Buses provide additional support and are an integral part of Dubai’s transportation system. Where the Dubai Metro can’t reach, Dubai’s sleek buses can. Dubai buses bridge the gap between any popular attraction and a Dubai Metro station. The buses that ply along the city’s routes have four different models: the standard red-colored buses, the double-decker buses, the articulated buses for more passenger capacity, and the blue-colored Metro Link buses. If you wish to visit Abu Dhabi on a budget, Dubai offers convenient intercity buses. You can also travel to Sharjah, Ajman, Hatta, and Fujairah on Dubai public buses.

The public buses operate daily from 4 am to 1 am the following day. All the buses can be accessed with a NOL card. Simply recharge and tap on the card reader and your fare will be deducted from the NOL card balance.

Dubai’s vision of safe and smooth transport for all people is evident in its modern amenities, accessibility features, and commitment to sustainability. Dubai’s buses are designed for all travelers; their low floors and ramps for wheelchairs and strollers make it easier for wheelchair users and families with babies and toddlers to board and disembark. Not just the buses, the bus stops are also air-conditioned and designed keeping the traveler’s needs in mind. All bus stops are spacious and equipped with route maps and information screens. Some of the main stops are installed with cafeterias, vending machines, and NOL top-up kiosks.

How to get to Dubai City from Dubai Airport

Highway with skyline in Dubai.

Landing at Dubai International Airport? If you haven’t booked an airport pick-up for your holiday, Dubai public transport has you covered.

Dubai Metro: Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 have Red Line stations right at the airport. Grab a NOL Card at the airport and follow the signs to the metro stations. Tap the card at the gate, hop on, and you can be in Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station) in less than 30 minutes for just AED 5 on a Silver Card. A taxi ride is also an option, but compare the AED 40-50 taxi fare with an AED 5 metro ride – it’s a steal! This is ideal for budget-conscious travelers, solo adventurers, or anyone wanting a quick, hassle-free ride to the city.

Dubai Taxi: If you don’t want to wait around, have a lot of luggage, and would prefer a stress-free, private ride straight to your hotel, opt for a Dubai taxi or cab-hailing app. The fare structure starts with a base rate of AED 25. This differs depending on whether you book the ride via an app or just hail a taxi on the street. Additional charges are added as per the kilometer you cover. The charges vary according to the distance covered.

Make Traveling in Dubai Easy with a NOL Card

When you arrive in Dubai, the first task to complete as soon as you clear immigration is to buy a NOL card. In Dubai, you will compulsorily have to get NOL card if you plan to use Dubai’s public transport services since you cannot pay for the fare using cash. A NOL card is much more convenient, as you can just recharge this digital card and use it as many times as you want for your journey across Dubai’s public transportation. It is far better than carrying the exact fare amount and purchase a ticket for each leg of your journey on different modes of transport. With one NOL card, you can travel smoothly and seamlessly on Dubai Metro, trams, and buses just by tapping the card at a card reader that automatically deducts the fare from your balance. You can also grab one at any metro station ticket counter, ticket machine, or shops like Carrefour. There are three types of NOL cards: Gold, Silver, and Red. For tourists, the Silver Card is the ideal choice, costing AED 25 with a credit of AED 19, and can be loaded up at any top-up outlets.

How to use it: Load credits in the NOL card with cash or an international bank card at ticket machines or via the RTA Dubai app. Tap in and out at card readers to pay the right fare. For a first-timer, the Silver Card is your best bet – affordable and flexible.
Where to top up a NOL card: Low balance on your card? No worries! There are multiple recharge outlets at Dubai Metro stations and other locations from where you can top up your card. You can even recharge your card via the RTA website and app.

Essential Tips for First-Time Dubai Travelers

These tips for first-time visitors to Dubai will help make travel within Dubai a lot easier.

  •  Dubai Metro and Dubai public buses are the best modes of transport to use to move around this dazzling city without getting lost or making a hole in your wallet.
  •  Check zone maps at stations to plan your trips. The RTA also operates an efficient website and app that lets you plan your journey from start to finish. Take advantage of these!
  •  Avoid 7 AM to 10 AM and 4 PM to 7 PM rush hours for less crowded trains and buses.
  •  For women travelers or visitors travelling with kids, the women-and-children cabins and pink-roofed cabs are cosy and safe travel options.
  •  Follow the rules in Dubai Metro. This means no eating, drinking, chewing gum, or smoking once you enter the Dubai Metro station, the metro cabin, and inside public buses.
  •  Keep in mind that there are luggage policies that visitors should be aware of while traveling on public transport. For instance, only two suitcases per person of specific dimensions are allowed inside Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram. Bulky luggage or animals are not allowed inside Dubai buses.
  •  Choose hotels near Dubai Metro stations for quicker access, such as:
  •  The JW Marriott Marquis (Near Business Bay Metro Station)

Dubai is a city that shines like a gem, vibrantly contrasting with the monotone desert landscape. Teeming with glistening modern towers and superlative architectural marvels, the emirate owns a city skyline that other cities envy. While each iconic landmark has its own charm, viewing the entire ensemble creates a picturesque and unforgettable moment. So, how should you experience Dubai to gain a complete bird’s-eye view of the city’s beauty? Well, you have a couple of options. Among these, helicopter rides and skydiving are the most popular. If you are ready to experience this iconic city from the air, a question still remains: will you glide above it all in a sleek helicopter or dive headfirst into the ultimate adrenaline rush of a tandem skydive? To help you choose, we have compiled a few key points. Keep reading.

What’s The Experience About?

Helicopter Ride Dubai

Birds eye view of Dubai city.

Dubai offers an amazing bird’s-eye view, making it one of the most picturesque places to experience the best helicopter rides around the world. You board a helicopter and fly around Dubai for 12 to 30 minutes to enjoy unperturbed aerial views over the Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, and Dubai Marina. From 1,000 to 2,500 feet, this panoramic flight of Dubai’s architectural wonders feels like a guided city tour in the sky. Moreover, it feels like a VIP tour. You sit back and enjoy the views while an experienced pilot guides you, offering insights into the landmark attractions below. This is a peaceful, stress-free, and comfortable way to enjoy various bird’s-eye views of Dubai city.

SkyDiving Dubai

Man doing skydiving in Dubai

Skydiving is an exhilarating adventure that begins with a flight in an airplane, followed by a jump from 13,000 feet. You will experience a thrilling freefall at 120 mph for 40 to 60 seconds before deploying your parachute and gliding back to earth. Throughout the experience, a professional instructor accompanies you and captures your emotions during the descent. This activity is far more about adrenaline and excitement than just casual sightseeing. In fact, the only views you will enjoy are as you glide down after deploying the parachute minutes after your jump.

Which One’s Better?

Helicopter tours offer more time to take in the fabulous panoramas across Dubai city. On the other hand, a skydiving experience provides one specific bird’s-eye view of the drop zone – Palm Jumeirah or the Dubai Desert. Additionally, the panoramic viewing part lasts only for 5 to 8 minutes. That also depends on whether you choose to keep your eyes open during the descent. So, if you want to enjoy the views of Dubai city, a helicopter ride is a plus point over a skydiving experience.

What’s Your Adventure Style?

Helicopter Ride

The thrill factor on a helicopter tour in Dubai is quite mild, offering just enough excitement to get your heart racing. However, it’s a smooth and comfortable tour suited for everyone.

Skydiving in Dubai

Book Skydive Dubai tickets only if you are ready for maximum adrenaline kicks. Skydiving is suited only for adrenaline junkies who thrive on intense thrills or those seeking once-in-a-lifetime experiences and are bold enough to conquer fear with a heart-pounding freefall and jaw-dropping views.

Which One’s Better?

Choose helicopter rides in Dubai if you are seeking a unique way to view Dubai’s iconic landmarks. Skydiving is your calling if you want the ultimate adventure of your lifetime in Dubai, the kind you wouldn’t shy from bragging about.

How’s The View?

Helicopter Tours

A plane flying over a city in the sky.

On a helicopter tour, you get more panoramic and close-up views of Dubai’s icons. It’s like a parade of sights as you fly along Dubai’s modern and cultural landmarks in quick succession. The pilot also flies lower so that you can admire the dominating Burj Khalifa, the sail-like Burj Al Arab, the palm-shaped Palm Jumeirah, and the neon-lit Dubai Marina and Dubai Canal. It offers perfect photo opportunities, as the chopper’s huge windows make it easy to click clear shots of the city’s architectural gems. Since you hover in the air at a uniform pace, you have ample time to capture captivating sights with your camera.

Skydiving Dubai

Two people doing skydive in Dubai.

When you book skydiving in Dubai, you can choose the panorama you want to view while soaring above. Dubai has two jaw-dropping drop zones. One is the breathtaking Palm Drop Zone at The Palm Jumeirah. This offers a wide-angled view of sprawling Palm Jumeirah with Atlantis resorts and Dubai’s coastline stretching below. The second drop zone is the Dubai desert drop zone, set amid the endless golden dunes with the Dubai skyline twinkling along the edges. Both views are iconic and postcard-worthy, etched themselves in your mind forever. However, the duration of skydiving is quite short. You get the view of sweeping panoramas just before the jump. After that, the adrenaline rush during your freefall might feel like a blur, and you might not focus on fully soaking in the view. However, your personal instructor will capture clear photos and videos of you soaring over Dubai’s landscapes, perfect for your social media feed.

Which One’s Better?

Helicopter tours are the best way to get aerial views of Dubai. They offer plenty of time to click memorable photos at a leisurely pace. On the contrary, during a skydive Dubai thrilling experience from 13,000 feet, you will only soak in views during the parachute glide down to the ground due to the speed of the freefall.

If you have read up to this point, it gives a fair idea that if you call yourself a hardcore adventure seeker, skydiving is what you should go for. If not, opt for a helicopter tour. Some other factors that come into play while deciding which experience to choose are:

Accessibility

You can book helicopter tours from several flight operators. However, skydiving can only be experienced through certified and experienced professional operators such as Skydive Dubai. Of course, you can get in touch and make your bookings via us for the best value for money and a hassle-free experience.

Safety

You don’t need to declare you are fit for helicopter tours. There is no age restriction as well. Practically anyone can hop aboard for a stress-free ride. In fact, helicopter tours are among the top Dubai air tours preferred by families and groups with seniors, kids, and those with mobility needs. It is one of the safest ways to enjoy Dubai’s beauty. Skydiving in Dubai, however, is a thrilling activity, but with limits. Not all can sign up for an adventure like this. It is not an activity for the faint-hearted. There are fitness needs to be met and initial training to be completed before you are ready to fly up in the sky. Kids are not allowed to do this activity. Health safety is critical, and those not deemed fit cannot participate.

Cost

In this debate between a helicopter ride and a skydive tour in Dubai, the helicopter ride is more wallet-friendly. It often costs around AED 700 to 1500, depending on the tour length and amenities like private tour options. On the other hand, skydiving is costlier, ranging anywhere from AED 1800 to 2200.

Now, before you go ahead and book your tour, ask yourself this one final but fundamental question:

Is it Pragmatic?

Helicopter Tours

Helicopter flying over water body in Dubai.

This air tour can be done by everyone – senior citizens, people with disabilities, kids, and even those with mild vertigo or a slight fear of heights. A professional pilot operates the helicopter, and you will be safely strapped into your seats. The best part? You simply settle down in the comfy seats and let the pilot take you around the city. There isn’t anything else for you to do but sit, relax, and enjoy the views. The thrill of being in the air, with the wind whipping around you and the city looming underneath, gives you a mild adrenaline rush. That’s all. Quite practical for all tourists. But that isn’t the case for a skydiving experience.

Sky Diving Experience

Two people skydiving over dubai.

Before you go on a skydiving experience, you should really ask yourself if it is your cup of tea. A skydiving experience in Dubai requires initial training, signing a waiver form, and then suiting up for a flight that soars 13,000 feet above ground. This was the easy part. The next step is to jump out of the plane with your instructor willingly. If you can’t imagine throwing yourself out of a plane, this activity is not for you. On the other hand, some tourists would love the idea of jumping out of an aircraft and plunging to the earth to feel the exhilaration and the adrenaline kick. If you view a freefall from a flight as soaring in the air and have no qualms but are excited about this adventure, you are perfect for this experience.

Conclusion

It’s no surprise to conclude that skydiving is for thrill seekers, while helicopter rides are more tourist-friendly. Dubai’s skyline is calling, and you’re ready to see it from the air. But do you want the luxurious glide of a helicopter ride or the heart-racing plunge of a tandem skydive? If you are seeking an extreme adrenaline rush and a unique personal challenge, you shouldn’t miss a skydiving experience in Dubai. However, if you want to safely see beautiful scenery with friends or family, then opt for a helicopter tour Dubai. So, what’s it going to be for you?

FAQs About Helicopter ride vs. Skydive in Dubai

1. Is skydiving in Dubai a solo activity?

Not exactly. While only one participant leaps out during a skydiving experience, an experienced instructor accompanies a tandem skydive. Only certified, licensed divers can opt for solo jumps.

2. Which activity is best suited for family holidaymakers?

Hands down, helicopter tours in Dubai are best suited for family holidaymakers.

3. What is the best time to do these activities?

The cooler months in Dubai, from November to March, are ideal for both activities, as they are outdoor experiences usually taking place during the day. If you opt for night helicopter tour experiences, any time of the year is a good time to enjoy the ride.

4. What is the duration of these adventures?

Helicopter rides last 12 – 40 minutes and require minimal prep time. Skydiving, however, takes around four hours in total, which includes a safety briefing and preps, taking the flight to altitude, and the 6- to 7-minute jump, and parachute gliding back to the ground.

The United Arab Emirates is one of the top tourist destinations in Middle East Asia. The country offers everything from natural landscapes and architectural marvels to cultural and luxurious experiences. Among the seven emirates of UAE, Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the most popular. While Abu Dhabi is the national capital of the UAE, Dubai is its commercial capital. Dubai has always been a favorite holiday destination, although Abu Dhabi has also become popular among tourists, especially families, in the last decade or so. So, if you are planning a holiday in the UAE, the question: Abu Dhabi or Dubai – which is better for holiday would be constantly on mind. Let us find out the answer together.

Overview of Abu Dhabi and Dubai

Abu Dhabi

A city with a lot of tall buildings at night

The capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi, is known for its cultural heritage. This emirate is dotted with mosques, ancient and modern palaces, heritage buildings, and museums. Still, it is not behind when it comes to leisure and entertainment. In fact, Abu Dhabi has an entire island (Yas Island) dedicated to theme and entertainment parks. Despite all this, a major focus of the emirate is on preservation and conservation of nature, which can be reflected in its numerous attractions and activities. As this emirate is recently developing its tourism industry, there are plenty of upcoming attractions in Abu Dhabi for tourists to look forward to in the future. Overall, Abu Dhabi is a city with a laidback attitude and slow-paced life.

Dubai

Dubai is quite the opposite of Abu Dhabi, when it comes to attitude and lifestyle. While both emirates are equally luxurious, Dubai is louder, crowded, faster, and more glamorous than Abu Dhabi. Dubai is a city that boasts the highest number of world records. Home to the tallest building (Burj Khalifa), biggest manmade island (Palm Jumeirah), biggest observation wheel (Al Ain), largest shopping mall (Dubai Mall), biggest natural flower garden (Dubai Miracle Garden) and more, Dubai is a sightseeing paradise. The city is also packed with adventurous and thrilling attractions, both in the form of theme parks and activities. What makes the city exciting is that there are always upcoming tourist attractions in Dubai.

Landmarks and Attractions

Both Dubai and Abu Dhabi are filled with architectural marvels. But while Abu Dhabi has more cultural attractions and landmarks, Dubai is known for its modern architectural wonders.

Abu Dhabi

Here are some of the most prominent landmarks and attractions you can see in Abu Dhabi.

 Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

White and gray mosque in-front of body of water.

With the space to accommodate more than 40,000 worshippers at a time, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the UAE and a regular part of most Abu Dhabi packages. Made entirely of white marble, the mosque is made of 80 domes, 4 high minarets, 1000 pillars, and 10 glimmering pools. The interior of the mosque is as beautiful and exquisite as the exterior. As you explore inside the mosque, you will get to see the world’s largest handmade carpet, large Swarovski crystal chandeliers, and intricate walls laden with gold and precious stones.

 Louvre Abu Dhabi

Another major cultural attraction of Abu Dhabi is Louvre Abu Dhabi. A counterpart of the world-famous Parisian Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi is located on Saadiyat Island, the cultural island of the emirate. The museum is spread around an area of 9200 square meters and is filled with masterpieces from the ancient and modern world. While the permanent and temporary exhibits of the museum are fascinating, the architecture of the museum itself is quite interesting.

Qasr Al Watan

Qasr Al Watan is a place that holds both cultural and national significance. Also known as the Presidential Palace, Qasr Al Watan exudes luxury and opulence. The architecture of the palace proudly represents the Arabic heritage of the country, while each of its rooms preserves the history and cultural heritage of the UAE. If you visit the place at night, you can also enjoy a captivating light and sound show.

Yas Island

Yas Island is the place that shows that Abu Dhabi is not limited to its cultural attractions. The island has some of the best family-friendly attractions, right from theme parks to shopping malls. Yas Island’s Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros., and SeaWorld are some of the best places to visit in Abu Dhabi. Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Mall, Yas Bay Waterfront, and Yas Beach are also worth exploring.

Emirates Palace

A luxury five-star hotel, Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, is an iconic landmark of Abu Dhabi. The massive palace has 114 domes, with the central one decorated with gold, crystals, and pearls. It also has expansive gardens, exquisite fountains, a private beach, gorgeous pools, a relaxing spa, numerous fine dining restaurants, and a private marina.

Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital

If there is one unique attraction in Abu Dhabi, it has to be the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital. Established in 1999, this hospital is dedicated to the national bird of the UAE, the falcon. The hospital has air-conditioned treatment rooms and every operation theater, where the falcons are treated for all kinds of minor and major ailments. The hospital treats more than 11,000 falcons every year.

Dubai

Let us look at the most famous landmarks and attractions in Dubai, some of which are world record holders.

 Burj Khalifa

White concrete building near palm tree under blue sky during daytime.

The tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa is the pride and honor of not just Dubai but also of the UAE. Resembling a Hymenocallis flower, the tip of the Burj Khalifa can be viewed from anywhere in Dubai. Measuring 828 meters in height, the Burj Khalifa is made of 163 floors, comprising luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, residential apartments, and corporate offices. It also has two observation decks, one being the world’s tallest observation deck. Visiting the observation deck will give you a panoramic view of the city. None of the Dubai holiday packages can be complete without this iconic attraction.

Dubai Mall

Right next to Burj Khalifa is Dubai Mall, an enormous shopping mall covering almost 1 million square feet. With 1200 plus retail stores, it is a shopper’s paradise. But Dubai Mall is also known for its entertainment and leisure activities. The mall is home to a massive food court, numerous restaurants, a multiplex, an aquarium and underwater zoo, indoor play areas and theme parks, and lots more. Outside the mall is the large Dubai Lake, where you can enjoy the famous Dubai Fountain Show.

Global Village Dubai

Global Village the multicultural festival park in Dubai

Global Village Dubai is the city’s major leisure and entertainment destination. A seasonal attraction that happens between October and April, Global Village celebrates the culture of 90 countries from all around the world. The place is divided into different pavilions that represent different countries. As you explore these pavilions, you will be able to enjoy the handicrafts, local products, food, and culture of the countries they represent.

Palm Jumeirah

Palm Jumeirah in Dubai near a body of a water.

Palm Jumeirah or the Palm Island is the largest manmade island in the world. Shaped like a palm with 16 fronds, the palm island is the epitome of luxury, innovation, and grandeur – everything that Dubai stands for. The island is filled with opulent villas, grand hotels, shopping malls, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, and more. The center of attraction here is Hotel Atlantis the Palm, which is its crowning glory.

Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab requires a special mention here for two reasons. One for its special sail-shape and the other for being the only seven-star hotel in the world. The hotel is known for its plush interiors, grand suites, gourmet restaurants, and some unique rooms as well (one located underwater). Some other unique features of this hotel are its gold-plated decor, private helipad, underwater restaurant, and more. The hotel offers a guided tour for those who want to see its interior.

Desert Safari

Herd of camel sitting on-desert sand.

You cannot talk about the attractions of Dubai without talking about its desert safari. Complete with adventure and entertainment, the desert safari in Dubai promises an evening (or morning) full of fun memories. The Dubai desert safari adventure activities include dune bashing, camel riding, sandboarding, and quad biking. Performers entertain you with Tanoura dancing and belly dancing performances. And the most important part is the BBQ dinner at the end of the safari.

Outdoors, Beaches, and Adventures

Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai offer numerous outdoor attractions, beaches, and adventurous activities.

Abu Dhabi

Corniche Road in Evening in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi has plenty of outdoor spaces, beaches, and adventurous activities. Here are the things you can enjoy in Abu Dhabi.

  •  Beaches: The most prominent beach in Abu Dhabi is Corniche Beach. Gentle and serene, it is the perfect place to enjoy a sunset in the evening along with some quality time with your family. Abu Dhabi Corniche is filled with restaurants, cafes, a walkway, cycling and jogging paths, and a play area as well. Yas Beach and Saadiyat Beach are some other popular beaches here. The best part about the beaches in Abu Dhabi is that they are not very crowded.
  •  Outdoors and Adventures: There is no dearth of outdoor spaces and adventures in Abu Dhabi. What makes Abu Dhabi special is that a lot of effort is put into preserving nature. One example of the same is the Mangrove National Park. You can explore the park either by taking a walk on the boardwalk or go on a kayaking tour. Exploring this national park is both peaceful and interesting, as you get to see a whole lot of fauna in the form of dolphins, herons, flamingos, and more. Another outdoor attraction that should be on your itinerary is the wildlife reserve on Sir Bani Yas Island. Here, you can go on a wildlife safari and get the chance to see animals like gazelles, Arabian oryx, giraffes, cheetahs, and more. While beach and water sports are available in Abu Dhabi, this emirate is more inclined towards breezy and laidback activities.

Dubai

View of Burj park with tall buildings.

Although Dubai is known for its architecture and constructions, there is no dearth of outdoor spaces and attractions here. And as for adventurous activities, Dubai is one of the top-most countries for the same, especially extreme adventures.

  • Beaches: Dubai has some of the coolest beaches in the world, and the best part is that most of them are public beaches. Jumeirah Beach, JBR Beach, Sunset Beach, Kite Beach, Marina Beach, and Mamzar Beach are some of the best beaches here. A point to note here is that unlike the beaches in Abu Dhabi, the Dubai beaches can get quite crowded, especially during the winter months. Moreover, they are full of activities and offer an array of water sports, including parasailing, kite surfing, surfing, jet skiing, flyboarding, banana boat riding, and more.
  • Outdoors and Adventures: Dubai is home to some of the most fantastic indoor attractions like an indoor ski resort, indoor aquarium, and even an indoor rainforest. Still, the city has plenty of outdoor areas, including Zabeel Park and Burj Park, where you can enjoy a picnic with your loved ones. But when it comes to adventurous or thrilling activities, no place can compete with Dubai. You can enjoy extreme sports like sky diving, scuba diving, ziplining, bungee jumping, hot air ballooning, and more.

Dubai has a phenomenal skyline, with towering skyscrapers and unique buildings. Everyone who flies to Dubai is mesmerized by the sky view of the city before touchdown. While driving around Dubai to check out its architecture is great, there is something about viewing it from a high-up. No, we are not talking about observation decks, and Dubai has plenty of them that give you an amazing view of the entire place. We are talking here about air tours, which are more thrilling. Dubai offers different types of air tours, some leisurely and some adventurous. Take a look at the best Dubai air tours.

Helicopter Ride

A helicopter flying above Dubai city.

If you are looking for a unique way of sightseeing in Dubai, the helicopter tour is for you. The helicopter tour would take you above the city and let you see some of its most iconic landmarks up close. As the helicopter ascends, you will be able to see the vast expanse of the city. During the helicopter ride Dubai, you can see Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, the Palm Islands, and other modern attractions. Historical locations like Dubai Creek and the Al Fahidi Neighborhood are also covered in this tour. Need a one-of-a-kind premium flying adventure? A private helicopter tour in Dubai is an ideal choice. You and family or your loved one can have the entire aircraft to themselves while soaking in the breathtaking panorama.

Skydiving

Travel skydiver flying over the Islands in Dubai.

Skydiving is for those who want an aerial experience tinged with thrill and adventure. It is one of the best and the most popular extreme adventures in Dubai. If you have never tried this sport, you can go tandem skydiving, where you dive from an airplane along with a professional diver. As you jump from the flight some 4000 feet above the ground, you get to see the city’s aerial view, including the majestic Palm Jumeirah, the artificial palm island. Alternatively, you can skydive in the desert with the Skydive Dubai tickets.

Hor Air Balloon Ride

Hot air ballon ride in Dubai during beautiful sunset.

The hot air balloon ride in Dubai would take you away from the packed city to its open deserts. This activity happens early in the morning when it is still dark outside. Once you reach the desert, you can watch how the hot air balloon is lit. The hot air balloon Dubai ride is timed in a way to catch the breathtaking sunrise in the desert. During your one-hour ride, you can see the vast golden desert dunes that truly make a beautiful landscape. If you are lucky, you may also get the chance to see the gazelles grazing in the desert and may also see some other desert animals and birds. Some hot air balloon rides also include desert adventures and a hearty Emirati breakfast served with delicious coffee.

Parasailing

Happy couple Parasailing in Dubai beach in summer.

Dubai is not a stranger to water sports. One water sport that combines adventure with an air tour is parasailing. Here, you are attached to a parachute-like sail connected to a speed boat with a harness. As the boat catches speed, you are lifted into the air. As the boat rides towards the shore, you get to enjoy the sprawling skyline of Dubai and the wind on your face. There are several places where you can enjoy parasailing, but JBR and Dubai Marina are the best. You can try parasailing solo or with a partner. Sometimes, even three people can enjoy this water sport together.

Seaplane Ride

White color seaplane in the body of water.

Another air tour, like a helicopter ride in Dubai, is the seaplane tour. But it differs from a helicopter as it takes off and lands on water. As the seaplane takes off from the Arabian Sea, you get to see the gorgeous view of the sea, followed by the incredible manmade attractions of the city. Most seaplane tours include the major attractions of Dubai, including The Palm Jumeirah, The World Island, Burj Al Arab, Burj Khalifa, and more. While some seaplane tours take 25 minutes, you can also opt for ones that last for 40 minutes. The best thing about seaplanes is that each guest would get a window seat to enjoy the view.

Ziplining

People enjoying Ziplining in Dubai.

Although this is not exactly an air tour, it allows you to fly over the city and enjoy its aerial view. XLine Dubai offers ziplining activity in Dubai Marina. Measuring 1 km, this is the longest urban zipline in the world. The ziplining ride begins at the top of Amwaj Towers, at the height of 170 meters. Once equipped with the safety harness, you speed up through the zipline at the speed of 80 km/hour to reach Dubai Marina Mall. While the speed is thrilling, you can see a bird’s-eye view of Dubai Marina, including its tall structures and waterways.

Gyrocopter

A man flying Gyrocopter under the clear sky.

The gyrocopter ride is for those who want to see the aerial view of the city but are not a fan of heights that go beyond 3000 feet. The gyrocopter is an open two-seater aircraft that flies at a height of 1500 feet. The pilot sits in the front while you take the single seat behind. Just like a helicopter ride, you will be taken over all the crucial landmarks of the city, including Palm Jumeirah, Burj Khalifa, Ain Dubai, Hotel Atlantis, and more. The flight duration for the gyrocopter ride is 20 minutes, and you will also get photos and videos of your ride.

The Dubai Balloon Ride

The Dubai Balloon Ride is unlike the other air tours in Dubai. Opened in 2024, the Dubai Balloon is a tethered helium balloon at Hotel Atlantis’ Aquaventure Water Park. This large balloon takes you 300 meters above the ground, and the tour lasts 10 minutes. During the tour, you do not float around the city. Instead, you are tethered above the ground, allowing you to see the area around you. The vantage point from above gives you a great view of Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Island, including all its fronds. Moreover, on a good day, you will also get a clear view of Downtown Dubai and Khalifa.
